February 2022

A message from the Secretary General                                             February 2022

News has reached us of the shocking invasion of Ukraine by Russia. Our thoughts are with our colleagues and the innocent men, women and children who are being hurt by this terrible event, and we sincerely hope that negotiations will restart and quickly lead to an end of the war.

It is strange to be looking forward as if nothing is happening, however, I would like to inform you that plans for the 60th Annual ESPE Meeting are well underway and that we are eagerly anticipating holding the meeting in-person at the “La Nuvola” Convention Centre in Rome. The theme for the meeting is “Personalised Medicine in Paediatric Endocrinology”, an approach I’m sure resonates with you all.

Abstract submissions are open and authors are encouragesd to submit their work before the Tuesday 19 April deadline, please don’t forget to review the Guidelines for submissions on the website, as well as the abstract categories.

The forth ESPE Connect Webinar “Should we screen for Type 1 Diabetes in children?” will be held on Thursday 17 March, 16:00-17:30 CET. These regular webinars offer high-quality scientific and educational content from world-leading paediatric endocrinologists. Speakers include Professor Francesco Chiarelli, Professor Moshe Phillip, Professor Tadej Battelino and Professor Carla Greenbaum. Register for free now to view it live, or access it and other previous webinars on demand via the ESPE website.

Applications to host the 2023 ESPE Science Symposium are also open, ESPE members are encouraged to review the full guidelines and submit their applications by the deadline; 15 April 2022. We are also pleased to be able to open applications for the ESPE Summer School 2022, to be held face-to-face from September 12th - 14th in Le Tre Vaselle, Torgiano (Perugia), prior to the ESPE 2022 meeting in Rome. Moving the schools online for 2021 was a real success, and we are delighted to be able to offer the in person experience we have enjoyed previously again this year.
