ESS is a new and exciting ESPE initiative offering aspiring young investigators in pediatric endocrinology the unique opportunity for research skills development.
The ESS scientific program includes i) core topics, such as scientific writing, presentation skills, epidemiology, applying for grants and career development strategies, ii) research concepts, including clinical trials, gene polymorphism, drug discovery, and mouse models and iii) new technologies, such as mutation analysis, imaging in cell biology, siRNA-mediated knockdown and transcriptomics. An example of the first ESS program, Held in Varberg, Sweden in May 2010 is available (pdf) (30kb).
Aimed at final year PhD students, postdoc fellows or research active young pediatric endocrine investigators (who are within 5 years of their PhD or fellowship), the ESS faculty consists of some of the world's top scientists from among the NICHe Conference speakers and senior ESPE members.
Calls for applications are announced annually at the annual ESPE meeting.
ESS is supported by an educational grant made by Pfizer Health Care.
