Winter School Steering Committee vacancy

Deadline: 16 June 2019

We are seeking applications from the ESPE membership for the position of member of the ESPE Winter School Steering Committee. The vacancy has arisen due to current member, Véronique Beauloye, coming to the end of her second term of office. The three-year appointment will start in August 2019, preparing for teaching at the 2020 Winter School in Moldova.

The tasks of the Winter School Steering Committee include mentoring students in advance of Winter School to help them prepare their case and research presentations, teaching during Winter School and evaluating applicants for the School.

ESPE Winter School aims to cover all main topics in paediatric endocrinology and diabetes during the course of an intensive 5 day and 6 night teaching event. The host country is usually, but not always, in Eastern Europe. The course comprises interactive lectures in paediatric endocrinology, research seminars, small group teaching, and student case/research rehearsals/presentations. Normally there are around 7 teachers, (including the local host and School Coordinator) and around 25 ‘students’ who  must have a genuine interest in paediatric endocrine training and a reasonable command of written and spoken English.

The ESPE member who joins the faculty will be asked to give 4-5 lectures lasting 30-45 minutes each and to present ‘teachers’ cases’ to small groups. The faculty members mentor approx. 4 students each prior to the meeting so that the students’ case presentations and research proposals can be in an advanced stage by the time Winter School begins. The ESPE Winter School is a lot of work both before and during, and involves being away from home and institution for a week each year. But it is also hugely enjoyable and usually much appreciated by the students!

If you are interested in applying for this post, please send an electronic copy of your CV and a covering letter to the ESPE Team at: espe@eurospe.org by 16 June 2019.

The appointment will be made by the ESPE Council following recommendation by the Winter School Steering Committee.

All applicants should read the ESPE Committee Guidelines before applying.
