As we see this year come to a close, I would like to take a few moments to look back at 2024 and share some ESPE highlights.
We hosted four highly successful webinars on a variety of topics: congenital hyperinsulinism, pituitary adenomas, childhood obesity, and rare thyroid disorders, and welcomed nearly 1000 attendees across the year. All of the webinar replays can be found online and are free to view on-demand for all ESPE Members.
The first ESPE Connect webinar of 2025 will be held on 29 January and will focus on monogenic, neonatal, and rare diabetes. Register your place today!
We produced four insightful and educational editions of ESPE News this year, which have covered a range of topics from endocrine oncology, to endocrinology in a changing climate. All previous issues can be found to read at your leisure on the website.
We hosted our outstanding Annual Meeting in Liverpool last month, which boasted a high number of attendees. I hope you found the scientific programme interesting and our awards lectures inspiring, but most importantly, I hope you enjoyed connecting with friends and colleagues. You can also watch the session recordings – please follow the steps on the website to find ESPE On-Demand content. We hope to see you all in Copenhagen next year – please make sure to register for the Joint ESPE-ESE Meeting on 10-13 May.
We also held several face-to-face educational events around the world! The Winter School took place in Cairo, Egypt, the Maghreb School in Tunisia, Algeria, and the Caucasus & Central Asia School in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.
The Yearbook of Paediatric Endocrinology summarises and comments on the major advances in paediatric endocrinology during the previous year. In 15 chapters, the Yearbook provides a valuable resource for advances in basic, translational and clinical research as well as clinical practice published over the last 12 months.
Don’t forget, we are currently accepting nominations for the Andrea Prader Award. ESPE’s most prestigious award, it is given in recognition of excellence in leadership, a lifetime achievement in teaching and research, and an outstanding overall contribution to the field of paediatric endocrinology. The deadline for nominations is 08 January 2025.
We are also currently accepting applications for the ESPE Summer School 2025 on 6-9 May in Helsingør, Denmark, the ESPE Research Unit, the Visiting Professorship of Rare Diseases Grant, Early Career Scientific Development Grant, and Undergraduate Achievement Awards.
We also have two vacancies currently open for applications: Chair of Education and Training Committee (deadline: 30 December), and two Summer School Steering Committee Members (deadline: 20 January).
I wish you a wonderful festive season and a happy and healthy 2025.
All the very best,
Anita Hokken-Koelega
ESPE President
