The 21st October is World Iodine Deficiency Day. ESPE will mark this important day for paediatric endocrinology on its social media channels.

On the day ESPE leadership will also reach out to the European Commission to address an opinion put forward by the European Chemicals Agency Biocidal Products Committee. The opinion is inaccurate due to its incorrect terminology, iodine instead of PVP-iodine, which endangers the implementation of continuous public health efforts to address iodine deficiency.

This issue was first identified by ESPE’s partners namely the European Thyroid Association (ETA) and the European Society of Endocrinology (ESE) who issued a joint statement which ESPE endorsed.
