This month, I begin with the sad news of the recent passing of Kerstin Albertsson-Wikland. We remember her with warmth and gratitude for her significant contributions to research in children’s growth and paediatric endocrinology. She was fully committed to research that would make a difference, and strived to ensure that children benefited from scientific advances. Kerstin was a great advocate of ESPE, and was awarded the ESPE Andrea Prader Award in 2017, ESPE’s most prestigious prize. You can read the full obituary written by her colleagues on the website. If you would like to send your condolences, please email Kerstin’s son Joakim at joakim.wikland@gmail.com.
We will remember the colleagues we have lost this year in the opening ceremony of ESPE 2024 in November.
You are still able to register for the Annual meeting and social events this year. We look forward to welcoming you all to Liverpool, UK to meet friends and colleagues, exchange knowledge and learn from our busy scientific programme. The ESPE Research Fellowship enables talented early-career scientists, investigators, and paediatric endocrinologists to conduct research at leading institutions worldwide. This programme has helped launch successful careers in leading-edge clinical research in paediatric endocrinology.
Lloyd Tack won the ESPE Research Fellowship Award in 2017. In this video, he explains how the Fellowship helped his career and opened more doors for future funding. Apply for the grant by 31 October.
Next year, we will hold again our popular Winter and C&CA Schools, and we are currently accepting applications for both. Both of our Schools aim to support paediatricians who have entirely or partially completed their basic paediatric training, and who are now either established in, or intending to develop a deep and continuing interest in paediatric endocrinology and diabetes.
The Winter School will take place on 22-26th February 2025 near Rzeszow, Poland. The deadline for applications is 4th November.
The Caucasus & Central Asia School will be held in Tbilisi, Georgia on 9-12th April. The deadline for applications is 30th November 2024.
ESPE will be taking part in an upcoming ESE Talks… webinar on 5th November. This joint webinar with ESE and Endo-ERN will focus on genetic endocrine tumours with a focus on pancreatic neuroendocrine tumours. Register your place and join us for a fascinating talk.
Applications are open for the ESPE Visiting Professorship of Rare Diseases Grant, which enables scientific renewal and the development of long-term partnerships that lead to the development of new projects and funding. Applications will close on 30th December.
You will soon be able to register for the first ever Joint Congress between ESPE and ESE in Copenhagen, Denmark in May next year. Registration will open on the 1st December, with abstracts opening on 1st November – keep an eye on the website for updates.
All the very best,
