It has been a great honour for me to begin my term as ESPE President earlier this month and to serve this vibrant and dedicated community. As we move into the final quarter of the year, I am inspired by the energy and commitment shown across our committees, working groups, and membership. From strategic planning meetings to the continued development of our educational programmes and advocacy efforts, ESPE is making meaningful strides in paediatric endocrinology. I look forward to working closely with all of you to build on this momentum and ensure our society continues to thrive and evolve. I also look forward to working collaboratively with other paediatric endocrinology societies across the world to promote our specialty and deliver the best care to children with paediatric endocrine disorders, as well as promoting education, training and research.
The next few months will be busy with several events. I encourage you to join our upcoming ESPE Connect webinar on the 2nd October. Our expert panel will discuss growth, behaviour and drug and device trials in Prader-Willi Syndrome. Register your place to watch live. Our webinars are free to attend, but on-demand replays are only available to ESPE Members. If you’re not a member, find out more on the website. Membership of ESPE brings with it many opportunities for education, training and research, as well as collaborative working and networking with your colleagues.
We are also delighted to be involved in a joint webinar alongside ESE and Endo-ERN on recent therapeutic perspectives for rare endocrine diseases. On the 4th November, ESPE’s Corporate Liaison Board Chair Mohamad Maghnie will sit on the expert panel and present on whether long-acting rhGH is an improvement over daily rhGH. You can find out more and register your place via the website.
ESPE is currently inviting applications for several exciting committee roles. The Science Committee is seeking a YES Group representative (deadline 30th September), and the Communications Committee is looking to appoint two committee members and one YES Group representative member (deadlines 7th November). Full role descriptions and application details are available on the website. I encourage you to apply to join these dedicated committees, it is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to ESPE’s work and connect with colleagues across the paediatric endocrinology community.
Applications for ESPE’s Winter School are currently open and I encourage paediatricians to apply for this 5-day course to support their continuous education. This popular ESPE School will include interactive lectures, group sessions, case reports, and research proposal presentations. Applications will close on the 10th November, so please ensure that you apply now.
We were proud to announce the ESPE Bone academy last month and I am pleased that we have had a flurry of applications. We have a limited number of places available on this specialised education program, so do not miss the opportunity to make a lasting impact on the future of paediatric bone health and patient outcomes. You can find full details and submit your application on the website.
The latest issue of our quarterly publication ESPE News is out now and focuses on innovative approaches to diagnosis in paediatric endocrinology. We feature articles on how precision diagnostics can transform care in genetic obesity; how salivary cortisone could be the key to diagnosing Cushing syndrome; how to differentiate severe short stature conditions; and what paediatric endocrinologists should look for in MRI and pituitary pathology – read the latest now.
All the very best,
Mehul Dattani
ESPE President
