The paediatric & adolescent gynaecology working group aims to improve the reproductive health of adolescent girls by bringing together clinical physicians and basic scientists involved and/or interested in the field.

The Annual Meeting Symposium for the PAG Working Group was held online during the virtual ESPE meeting (September 22-26, 2021).

Report on activities from 2020

  • The 2021 PAG Working Group Symposium had an online format, two speakers and a duration of one hour.

The first presentation was from Ana Claudia Latronico (Sao Paulo, Brazil) entitled: Genetics of precocious puberty. The second presentation was from Rikke Beck Jensen (Copenhagen, Denmark), entitled: Early/normal puberty: is any investigation appropriate? The session was well received and had a significant number (around 600) of views.

  • The coordinator of the PAG WG (Lourdes Ibáñez) participated in the 15th European Congress of Paediatric and Adolescent Gynaecology in a first collaboration with a wide organisation devoted to Adolescent Gynaecology. The meeting was postponed to June 2021 due to the COVID pandemic and performed online (https://www.eurapag2021.eu/programme).

  • Three members of the PAG WG (Thomas Reinehr, Abel López-Bermejo, and Lourdes Ibáñez), and a former member of the PAG WG (Feyza Darendeliler, Istanbul, Turkey), are among the partners participating in a funded Horizon 2020 project (European Commission), entitled: “PCOS in Adolescent Girls and Young Women: Toward a Treatment Guided by Pathophysiology”. The project will have a duration of 5 years, will be coordinated by Lourdes Ibáñez from Barcelona, and co-coordinated by Francis de Zegher from Belgium; is composed of 17 partners (among them, 7 clinical sites for recruitment of patients), and aims at demonstrating (in a Phase II, randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial) the beneficial effects of a low-dose combination of two insulin sensitisers and one anti-androgen for the treatment of PCOS in adolescent girls and young adult women (AYAs).
