Since the shocking Russian invasion of Ukraine, we have been working to find ways to support the people of Ukraine who have been affected by this terrible situation. A dedicated section of the ESPE website has been created to provide updates on the actions that have been taken and provide any useful information for professionals and affected patients and their parents.
Please do consider donating to humanitarian organisations such as the Red Cross of Ukraine and UNICEF Ukraine, two examples of humanitarian support funds.
You can also find information here from Endo-ERN on their actions and a list with European healthcare centres for rare endocrine disorders to ensure that every possible patient or parent can find the nearest healthcare professional for treatment.
We very much hope for a rapid resolution of the conflict which is hurting so many people. Our thoughts are with all those affected by this terrible situation.
Plans for the 60th ESPE Annual Meeting in Rome are progressing well. ESPE is also offering free registration to Ukranian colleagues for the online programme of the 2022 Annual Meeting, and we hope that as many are able to benefit from it as possible.
We are also delighted to be able to offer places on the ESPE Summer School 2022, to be held face-to-face from 12 – 14 September in Le Tre Vaselle, Torgiano (Perugia). Applications are open until 15 May, the aim of the school is to provide senior trainees with up to date teaching in selected areas of paediatric endocrinology, providing vital opportunities for discussion and development to the future leaders in the field.
Applications are also welcomed for a new faculty member of the ESPE Winter School Steering Committee. The three-year appointment will start in June 2022, in preparation for the 2023 Winter School. Previously planned to be held in Moldova, this is subject to change to ensure as much physical distance from the war in Ukraine as possible. The faculty member should demonstrate a broad clinical experience in both paediatric diabetes and endocrinology and their teaching skills. The deadline for applications is 15 June 2022.
Three Early Career Scientific Development Grants are available to paediatric endocrinologists and basic scientists for the purpose of gathering information and experience on a specific research issue or on a laboratory technique in the field of paediatric endocrinology. Applications are encouraged until the deadline of 31 May 2022.
For more information on upcoming events and opportunities, please remember to visit the dates and deadlines section of the ESPE website, which includes links to upcoming grants, awards and committee vacancies. We also have a section dedicated to education, which includes updates on all of the ESPE schools and other training opportunities, such as the popular ESPE Connect Webinar series.
Wishing you all the very best,
Anita
