With the end of the year rapidly approaching, don’t forget to nominate your colleagues for the ESPE 2022 awards with opportunities to celebrate clinical and scientific achievement from across the world and at different career stages. Please view our website for more information and submit your nominations by 10 December.
There is also a great opportunity to join the Maghreb School Steering Committee as a member on a three-year appointment which will start in March 2022. This is a fantastic opportunity to meet and impart your knowledge to paediatricians from North Africa, while gaining valuable experience of different professional practices, cultures and teaching styles. Applications are welcomed from those who have a good command of the French language. More information on the role and how to apply can be found here.
The first Early Career Paediatric Endocrinologist Taskforce (ECPE) meeting took place last month and was a huge success. There is a fantastic level of energy and enthusiasm in the group and we are sure some exciting projects and ideas are going to come from them very soon. The Rare Disease Advisory Group held its latest meeting in early November. Among other topics, the proposed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between ESPE, ESE and Endo-ERN was discussed. This MoU will ensure that the roles of the two societies and their relationship with Endo-ERN are clarified for all parties.
Two introductory webinars on paediatric endocrinology and diabetes were also held in October, for all applicants submitted to the 2021 Caucasus & Central Asia (C&CA)School as a “starter” course for the physical school. I would like to thank all involved for their perseverance. As a bilingual online event it was not without its challenges but was a real success. The full report from the webinars can be read here.
There are also a number of deadlines and events coming up to look forward to. The third webinar in the ESPE Connect Webinar series is scheduled for 27 January 2022 at 16:00 CET. Chaired by Professor Michel Polak, it will cover genetics, diagnosis and treatment of IGF-1 Deficiency followed by a panel discussion. Further information on the programme and speakers will be shared in due course, so be sure to keep abreast of updates on the ESPE webpage.
Applications are welcome for the Early Career Scientific Development Grant, the deadline for which is 31 January. Take a look at the eligibility details on the ESPE website, alongside further information on the grants available. Applications are also open for the ESPE Research Unit; a collaborative research grant which aims to foster, facilitate, coordinate and identify topics for high quality research in paediatric endocrinology, for both physicians and scientists.
As always, it is inspiring to see so many opportunities for growth and collaboration. I urge you to take advantage of all that ESPE has to offer. Soon we will be looking to 2022 and all of its potentials. However, until then there is still much that can be achieved in 2021.
Best wishes,
Anita
ESPE Secretary General
