As arrangements are made for the upcoming ESPE 2022 60th Annual Meeting in Rome, the anticipation of a physical meeting after Covid grows. I am sure I am not alone in looking forward to the opportunity to see friends and colleagues at the beautiful “La Nuvola” Convention Centre in September.
Registration is now open for the full event in Rome, and for On-Demand access to the main meeting programme after the event. We hope to see as many of you in person as possible, but we are also very aware of the continued limitations many people face, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the rising cost of living and the war in Ukraine.
ESPE is offering free ESPE membership for 2022 for Ukrainian paediatric endocrinologists involved in the treatment of children with endocrine disorders, and free online access to the ESPE 2022 Annual Meeting for Ukrainian ESPE members. We understand that so many of our colleagues find themselves disconnected and adrift in their personal and professional lives, and hope that any small help we can give will make a difference.
Please do consider donating to humanitarian organisations such as the Red Cross of Ukraine and UNICEF Ukraine if you are able, your support is as needed as ever. Further information on support for professionsals, patients and parents can also be found on the ESPE website here.
The ESPE website also includes many upcoming learning and collaboration opportunities, such as the ESPE Science Symposium in October 2022. The two day event will be held in The Netherlands and discuss the etiology of genetic and acquired hypothalamic dysfunction in childhood, its consequences and new ways of management to improve outcome. Register now to avoid disappointment.
Applications for the Early Career Scientific Development Grant are also welcome until the 30 September deadline. The grant can be used as financial support for travel to an external laboratory, hospital or institute, to learn new scientific techniques, join joint research projects or attend seminars and other collaboration opportunities.
Lastly I’d like to bring your attention to the new Rare Disease Advisory Committee, born from the initiative initially formed for a 2 year period with the purpose of developing a strategy for how ESPE can incorporate rare disease into its activities. There are two vacancies available for Chair and Co-Chair, which will have equal standing in the group, though at least one should be from outside Europe. The deadline for applications is 31 July, if you would like to apply to these or any of our other available roles, please find further information on the ESPE website.

We have a wealth of opportunities for you to benefit from, including training, funding, networking and involvement with the Society and it’s important to us that these are taken up by members across countries and career stages.
