Seeing so many of you in Rome earlier in the month for the 60th ESPE Annual Meeting was an absolute joy. We were delighted to have an auditorium full to the brim and thousands of people benefiting from top quality speaker sessions, networking and learning. The Meeting was a real success and I would like to thank Nils Krone and his Programme Organising Committee for all of their work creating a superb scientific programme. Many thanks also to Stefano Cianfarani and Mariacarolina Salerno and the Local Organising Committee in Rome, for welcoming us so beautifully. And to Bioscientifica and M-Events for all of their hard work and expertise in ensuring the Meeting went smoothly.
We already look forward to the next Annual Meeting in The Hague, The Netherlands, but will need to answer some key questions regarding the format of the Meeting in a post-Covid world. We will therefore shortly be circulating a quick survey to understand your requirements for in-person vs virtual content and would really appreciate your responses to help us deliver a Meeting that suits your needs.
You will see that I write to you from now on as the ESPE President. As I explained in our Annual Business Meeting in Rome, it was decided that the title of President for the leader of the Society, rather than Secretary General, is clearer for people to understand and aligns ESPE with other similar societies. From now on, the member responsible for the ESPE Annual Meeting in their country will be known as the Annual Meeting Host, rather than President.
I’m pleased to have been re-elected as President of ESPE for a further term of three years and look forward to all that lies ahead, together with our teams of dedicated Council and committee members in continued and new activities. Rasha Hamza remains on Council to continue the excellent work she does as Education and Training Committee Chair and Stefano Cianfarani becomes Clinical Practice Committee Chair. I would like to thank Evangelia Charmandari for all of her contributions during her six years in her role as Clinical Practice Committee Chair. Meanwhile, Mehul Dattani has re-joined Council as Annual Meeting Host-elect 2024.
For those of you interested in joining ESPE’s Council, there will be several vacancies for September 2023 and a call for nominations will be sent to your email in December. Do please let me or the ESPE Team know if you’d like to discuss any of these opportunities.
In the meantime, we have a selection of committee vacancies currently available. Becoming an ESPE committee member is a great way to share your skills and expertise and contribute to ESPE and the field. You will also make new connections, learn a great deal and hopefully enjoy the experience too! Please visit our website for the latest vacancies.
We very much enjoyed celebrating our 2022 ESPE Award Winners in Rome and hearing about their extraordinary careers and inspiring work. I once again convey my congratulations to them all and thank them for their contributions.
We would like to know who you think deserves to win a prestigious ESPE Award next year. You have until 10 December to nominate your deserving colleagues and can find more information on our website.
Please note that applications for our next Winter School, in Serbia, are now open. If you are a trainee or you have recently completed your basic paediatric training, this is an excellent educational opportunity to receive a full interactive grounding in all the main aspects of paediatric endocrinology. Please apply by 1 December.
In the meantime, ESPE will be delivering its next ESPE Connect Webinar on achondroplasia and a Science Symposium on hypothalamic dysfunction, both in October 2022. Do make the most of all of our educational opportunities.
As always, please take a look at the dates and deadlines that appear in every News Alert and also on our website to ensure you don’t miss out.
My best wishes,
Anita
ESPE President
