I’m pleased to announce that registration and abstract submission for ESPE 2020 taking place in Liverpool, UK this September are now open. Every year, we marvel at the high quality work being produced by scientists and clinicians across the world and the Annual Meeting is an excellent opportunity for both eminent speakers and those just starting out in the field to showcase their work. The Meeting itself will take place from 10-12 September at the ACC in Liverpool. Our President is Professor Mehul Dattani, who has steered the scientific programme for several years as Programme Organising Committee Chair. I know he and his Local Organising Committee very much look forward to hosting you.
We welcome your abstract submissions until the deadline of 6 April (23:59 BST). All submitted work will be eligible for ESPE Meeting Prizes and travel grants are available to a number of junior presenting authors. Dedicated oral and poster sessions will provide a platform for delegates to learn from this very latest research. As with previous Meetings, you will benefit from a variety of other sessions too, including Working Groups, How Do I..?, Meet-the-Expert, Symposia and of course a selection of high profile Plenaries. You will get the very best rates for the meeting if you are an ESPE member and register by the Early Bird Deadline of 11 June 2020 (23:59 BST).
We also of course have two prestigious ESPE Schools that happen either side of the Annual Meeting. This year, the Summer School (just before the Meeting) and Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism School (just after the Meeting) will take place on the shores of the beautiful Lake Windermere, two hours from Liverpool. The deadline for Summer School applications, for senior trainees in paediatric endocrinology, is 8 February, so we look forward to hearing from you if you’re interested in a high quality, interactive, sociable residential course. The DOM School, for those with an interest in the specialisms of diabetes, obesity and metabolism, is accepting applications until 3 June.
For those of you looking to pursue a collaborative research project across borders, do take a look at our Research Unit grant, which provides the opportunity to be awarded €100,000 across two years to cover salary, materials and consumables, small items of equipment, collaborative visits and overheads for high quality research. The deadline for preliminary applications is 28 February.
Meanwhile, depending on the stage of your career, you have a matter of hours to apply for either our Early Career Scientific Development Grant or new Visiting Professorship grant! We look forward to receiving your applications.
One of the great things about ESPE is the involvement of our members, who help to deliver all of our activities and output. At the moment, we have opportunities to join several of our committees (Communication Committee, Newsletter Editorial Board, Caucasus & Central Asia School Steering Committee and Clinical Practice Committee) and we’d love to hear from you if you have the relevant skills and interests.
I hope you have all had a good start to the year and that 2020 is happy and successful for you.
Best wishes
Anita
ESPE Secretary General
