As we continue to watch the awful events in Ukraine unfold, I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank those who have stepped up to help others in need, embodying the best of humanity and showing a level of empathy and compassion that gives us hope in these dark times. ESPE is working closely with trusted suppliers to get donations of medical supplies into Ukraine, to help support the ongoing care for children and adolescents with endocrine disorders. We will continue to support our colleagues in Ukraine and the surrounding countries aiding refugees, and will continue to hope for an end to this terrible war and needless suffering.
A fundamental part of ESPE is the progression of paediatric endocrinology, to help those children and adolescents affected worldwide. To that end ESPE have continued to focus on bringing educational resources to all members, while we continue to hope for an end of the war and the needless suffering.
We eagerly look forward to the 60th ESPE Annual Meeting this year in Rome, and I encourage you to submit your abstracts before the 19 April deadline. There are several prizes and grants available for high scoring abstracts, and of course this gives you the opportunity to share your work, develop your network and gain helpful feedback. ESPE is also offering free registration to Ukranian colleagues for the online programme of the 2022 Annual Meeting, and we hope that as many are able to benefit from it as possible.
We are also delighted to be able to offer places on the ESPE Summer School 2022, to be held face-to-face from 12 – 14 September in Le Tre Vaselle, Torgiano (Perugia). Applications are open until 15 May, the aim of the school is to provide senior trainees with up to date teaching in selected areas of paediatric endocrinology, providing vital opportunities for discussion and development to the future leaders in the field.
Applications are open for the ESPE Undergraduate Achievement Award, which is open to all undergraduates, medical and non-medical, and is awarded for scientific achievement in the specific field of paediatric endocrinology. The award aims to attract early-career scientists and clinicians and the 6 recipients will be awarded a free registration and a grant of €750 to support travel and accommodation for attendance of the 2022 ESPE Annual Meeting in Rome. The deadline for applications is 27 April, details on eligibility are available on the ESPE website.
The Research Fellowship is also welcoming applications until 20 April, enabling talented early-career scientists, investigators, and paediatric endocrinologists to conduct research at leading institutions worldwide. This exceptional programme has helped launch influential careers in paediatric endocrinology, and I am pleased to confirm that there are 2 research fellowship grants available this year. Please do take a look at the eligibility requirements on the ESPE website, as well as the videos from previous fellowship winners.
