As we near the end of what has been another difficult year globally, we are grateful that ESPE has some really positive things to look back on in 2022. We were delighted to meet in person once again at our 60th Annual Meeting in Rome, to receive such positive feedback from the event and to have those important opportunities to network, learn and share together. Don’t forget you can still access the content on-demand via your registration.
Our Summer School and Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism School also took place in Italy and the ASPED-ESPE Endocrine Academy was held in Egypt, after a two year hiatus for face-to-face schools. ESPE’s early career initiative, the YES Group, really got off the ground this year, with an enthusiastic and hard working leadership team and now over 100 members, whose careers and future leadership goals will be supported by ESPE. Our ESPE Connect Webinar Series continued to provide relevant and up-to- date knowledge and content on a range of topics. My sincere thanks to all those involved in bringing these activities to fruition.
For those of you who are waiting to apply for the 2023 ESPE Summer School to be held in The Netherlands in September, applications will be opening in January 2023 once our new website goes live.
As you know, we are currently in the process of transitioning our association management services to a new provider, MCI. We will no longer be working with Bioscientifica as our Secretariat from 1 January, 2023. Bioscientifica will continue to manage our Annual Meeting. From 23 December, please use the new ESPE email address: espe@mci-group.com for the ESPE Team. We ask you for your patience during the transitionary period as we all get used to new systems and processes. I would like to thank Bioscientifica for all of the support and guidance they have provided to ESPE over the last 18 years.
All ESPE members should have received an email informing you of the upcoming Council vacancies. If you would like to chair one of our committees and be a member of ESPE’s Council, please submit your application by 28 February. We are grateful to all those who take on the commitment of being an ESPE Council member.
We also currently have opportunities to become a member of one of our committees: Clinical Practice, Clinical Fellowship and Programme Organising. We would love to hear from you before the deadlines in January if you would like to get involved with these committees.
You have one final chance to submit your nominations for the 2023 ESPE Awards, with the deadline extended until 27 January. This is a special way to recognise the scientific and clinical achievements of your colleagues and the Andrea Prader Committee looks forward to reading your nominations.
Don’t forget that we have grant calls open via our website for the ESPE Research Unit, the IFCAH-ESPE Research Grant and the Early Career Scientific Development Grant. All have deadlines in the new year, so take a look and submit an application if appropriate.
As always, please take a look at the dates and deadlines that appear in every News Alert and also on our website to ensure you don’t miss out.
My best wishes for the festive season and for a happy and healthy 2023,
Anita
ESPE President
