There are a lot of things to tell you about as an ESPE member at the moment – with plenty of opportunities not to be missed and events to register for.
As you know, every four years an International Meeting of Pediatric Endocrinology (IMPE) is held, in addition to the ESPE Annual Meeting. The 2021 IMPE meeting was postponed, but is now taking place 4-7 March 2023 in Buenos Aires. This will be the first “Joint Meeting” taking place outside the ESPE and PES regions, hosted by SLEP under the umbrella of the International Consortium of Pediatric Endocrinology. Several ESPE members have been involved with the planning of this exciting meeting and registration is now open. I encourage you to register to attend and you can get the best rates if you do so before 12 January 2023.
Alongside the International Meeting, a Global Fellows Program is held to provide up-to-date teaching in selected areas, as well as opportunities for critical thinking, presenting and networking and to develop the next leaders in paediatric endocrinology. The 2023 Program will take place 1-4 March in Buenos Aires and the deadline for applications is 5 December 2022.
Meanwhile, applications for our own Winter School, taking place in Belgrade, Serbia at the end of February 2023, will be closing on 1 December 2022. We encourage trainees from across Eastern Europe, Africa and the Middle East to apply for this fully funded residential edcucational opportunity.
Following successful recent ESPE Science Symposia, we are now looking ahead to 2024 and are seeking an ESPE member and their team who would like to host this international symposium in two years’ time. You would welcome scientists and clinicians to your institution to share the latest scientific knowledge on a special interest over a 1.5 day event. If you are interested in this opportunity, please see our website and apply by 1 April 2023.
If you are seeking funding for your research project or professional development, there are several currently available via our website: the ESPE Research Unit; the IFCAH-ESPE Research Grant and the Early Career Scientific Development Grant. All have deadlines in the new year, so do take a look and submit an application if appropriate.
Our next ESPE Connect Webinar on Lipodystrophy is now taking place on 15 February 2023. This is a postponement to the previously advertised date, to ensure that our expert speakers can join the programme. More details and registration will be available soon. As an ESPE member, you can attend all of our ESPE Connect Webinars for free so please save the date.
Our 2023 awards are open for nominations until 10 December 2022. There are opportunities to celebrate clinical and scientific achievements at various career stages so do consider nominating a colleague or putting yourself forward for one of our prestigious awards.
If you would like to join our Clinical Practice Committee or be the new Chair of our Newsletter Editorial Board, please see the Vacancies page of our website and get in touch. We very much welcome and appreciate the time and expertise of all of our committee members.
I would like to remind you that all delegates of the 2022 ESPE Annual Meeting are able to access the content on-demand for 6 months, so do make use of this excellent resource at a time that is convenient to you, using your Annual Meeting login.
As always, please take a look at the dates and deadlines that appear in every News Alert and also on our website to ensure you don’t miss out.
Finally, it is with great sadness that we have recently heard of the passing of our colleague Nathalie Josso, who was a major contributor to the knowledge on AMH and the winner of the ESPE Andrea Prader Prize in 1992. Nathalie passed away on 20 November 2022 after a full and happy life. Our thoughts are with her family and friends. You can read more about her life on our website.
My best wishes,
Anita
