We are devastated to hear of the unfolding humanitarian crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh (Republic of Artsakh). ESE and ESPE have been approached by colleagues in the region about the crisis affecting the population, as a result of blockade of access to the region. Please read our joint statement calling the international community for humanitarian aid and medical supplies and the free passage of patients to specialised treatment centres outside the blocked area.
If you can, please consider providing a donation through the Viva Foundation, a NGO of doctors and volunteers that was established with the mission to support with hospital facilities, equipment, medication, materials and instruments.
We hope this crisis is resolved quickly, and send our thoughts to our colleagues and the people of Nagorno-Karabakh (Republic of Artsakh).
We are quickly approaching September which means we are very close to welcoming you all to The Hague for the 61st ESPE Annual Meeting. Don’t forget to register: ‘Late & Onsite’ registration rates are available online until Saturday 23 September 2023, which is the last day of the meeting.
During the Meeting, we encourage you to meet up with friends and colleagues and enjoy the varied programme of events. Don’t miss out on visiting the ESPE stand where you will be able to get any questions answered, and have the opportunity to meet members of the ESPE leadership, as well as several of our Committees, including the YES Group.
Supporting young endocrinologists who are helping shape the future of paediatric endocrinology is an important part of the ESPE mandate. The YES Group has been established to bring together a community of early career ESPE members, creating an additional support network focused on promoting the visibility and involvement of paediatric endocrinologists at the beginning of their careers, within ESPE. The initiative is a dynamic way to introduce mentoring, career advice and to help identify and encourage future leaders in the discipline. Meet some of the YES Group at the stand and find out more about supporting, or joining, this important initiative.
Many of our members will also be taking part in ESPE committee meetings while in The Hague and we’re grateful for all of the work you do to make ESPE’s activities such a success and to ensure that we’re continually advancing paediatric endocrinology. I also hope to see you at ESPE’s Annual Business Meeting at 18:30 on Friday 22 September.
In the meantime, don’t forget to visit the ESPE website, which includes many upcoming learning and collaboration opportunities, such as information on the ESPE Science Symposium in October 2023, and applications for the Early Career Scientific Development Grant which are also welcome until the 30 September deadline. We also look forward to our 11th ESPE Connect webinar in October, this time focusing on transforming education through a global e-Learning model for Paediatric Diabetes and Endocrinology. This event is free for both members and non-members, so join us on the 12th October to learn more.
I look forward to seeing you all in The Hague next month, with best wishes,
Anita Hokken-Koelega
ESPE President
