I hope you managed to have a restful break over the holiday season. The ESPE community remains saddened by the continuing loss of thousands of lives in Gaza and Israel, many of them being children, young people, and their families. We remain concerned about the devastation and destruction of homes for shelter and hospitals for life-saving medical and surgical treatment for children. As we have mentioned before, if you are able to please consider donating to Save the Children.
We are planning several initiatives and events that will be rolling out soon. Please take a look back at the achievements and advancements of 2023 – the Yearbook of Paediatric Endocrinology summarises and comments on the major advances in paediatric endocrinology during the year.
We are busy planning the Annual Meeting in Liverpool, and abstract submission will open soon – please keep an eye on the website and social media for updates. The theme chosen for this year’s Meeting is ‘Lifelong endocrine care through collaboration, discovery and innovation’, which we know will bring a host of interesting presentations and symposia. We hope to see you in Liverpool, UK in November!
The first ESPE Connect webinar of the year will be held on 14 February and will focus on Congenital Hyperinsulinism. Join our expert panel as they discuss diagnosis and management, parent and family perspectives of CHI, as well as new advances. Make sure to register your place and join us for another interesting and informative session.
ESPE members can also watch all ESPE Connect webinar replays on-demand through the website, so if you miss an episode, or would like to watch again, you can catch up for free.
The Call for Suggestions for the Joint Congress between ESPE and European Society of Endocrinology in 2025 in Copenhagen is open and we welcome suggestions for all scientific sessions. All submitted suggestions will be discussed at the Programme Organising Committee meeting which will held in March. The deadline for suggestions is 12 February 2024.
The ESPE Research Unit is a collaborative research grant which aims to foster, facilitate, coordinate, and identify topics for high quality research in paediatric endocrinology, for both physicians and scientists. The call for preliminary applications is now open, so make sure to apply by 11 March and your submission may be awarded a grant of up to €100,000!
Applications are now open to host the 2025 ESPE Science Symposium! Organise a meeting that will bring together clinical, basic and translational researchers, strengthen networks, and help to reduce the gap between research and patient care. The deadline for applications is 01 April 2024 – apply today!
Remember we have a wealth of knowledge in our ESPE e-Learning platform. The e-learning chapters are based on learning categories of paediatric endocrinology and diabetes, and contain core and advanced level learning modules on normal development, pathophysiological mechanisms and current views on diagnostic and therapeutic interventions. ESPE e-learning users can also discuss topics and clinical cases within the online forum. You can also catch up on a recent ESPE Connect webinar, which focused on how to use the platform.
On the theme of learning, remember to also take a look at the European Training Syllabus. This free-to-use initiative aims to provide harmonisation of education and training in paediatric endocrinology using the highest standards, in collaboration with other paediatric subspecialties participating in European Academy of Paediatrics.
All the very best,
Anita Hokken-Koelega
